Summer project.

My summer project homework is going to be about a movie recently watched called Lucy
The reason why I chose this movie is because of course I recently watched it but another reason is because I found the way this movie flowed was really interesting and it all made sense to me.

The sub-genre of this movie is body horror which essentially is a differ to the human body which makes it act unusual or unnatural and that is another reason why this comes under the whole of Science fiction.
In this movie A girl called LUCY is with a man and they go into a place what happens to be a hotel she doesn't want to but he forces her to give a suitcase to a lady who is meant to sign people in. She has no option but to go in as the suitcase because it is tied to her wrist. She then enters a room with a man who seems to be the typical evil guy in the movie and so he sits her down and puts a gun to her head. I just want to point out that at this point she is really scared and she begs him not to harm her. The bad guys assistance bring in a line of scary -unusual unnatural- people and a guy seems to be bleeding and almost looks as if he is possessed screaming he is then killed. After a while she is suffocated and then put laid down on a bed. She then wakes up with stitches in her belly and a blue liquid contained in a plastic case. Later on that day she got in a fight with a man and he brutally assaulted her and kicked her in her belly right where the blue liquid was and it bursts in her belly. This made changes to her. She unlocked more and more percentage of her knowledge that shouldn't be normal and because of this she became immortal and then  she was able to change her facial and body features and if you remember i took a moment to say she was scared of being harmed well now she wasnt afraid of anything. As time went by she unlocked features to change her person as in change how she looks. Her brain could do  anything she could rewind time she could appear on your t.v screen at any time seen in the movie. But finally she got to 100% and at the end of the movie she morphs into a sort of black creature and then disappears. Then a guy asks where is she and he receives a message saying 'im everywhere' and on that note they end the movie.

This sets a dystopian future for this movie as she was good and who knows maybe because shes everywhere and everything she can do anything she wants which may effect earth.

Lucy Trailer

The producer is  EUROCORP and it was directed by Luc Besson
The cast: Scarlett Johansson,Morgan Freeman,Choi-Min-Sik,Amr Waked,Analeigh Tipton,Johan Phillip Asbaek,Mason Lee,Julian Rhind Tutt,Luca Angelleti,Loic Brabant.

This production was released in 2014 .

Richard Nelson runs the production.

Cite Du Cineman is another film produced by Europacorp.

They had a budget of $49 million euro's as they are a French production and they have over 3,172 theatres that opened in the U.S and that started off with $17 million euros and same goes for there box office.

Critics say that it is enthusiastic and silly. Also they say that the thrills are a bit cheesy! The film was not nominated for any awards.

I think that the target audience for this movie is 18+ as it does have its gory moments and also the gender is probably women because it is a solo women on a mission to save her self and also she dominates men characters. The people watching this should be clever as it has its moments of intelligence and there are moments where they speak about science things and that gets complicated. I'm not to sure about.

  1. WWW- Well done - you have written a clear plot in your own words and shown that you understand the key conventions of science fiction but you need to focus more on using media language (such as conventional and subversive) to make your work more analytical.

EBI- Your learner response- could you please post a comment now where you specifically look at HOW the characters / plot / settings fit in with the conventions of science fiction? Eg Her superhuman characteristics / the action element, the good versus evil and any other things that you think fit into the genre and its sub genres (horror and action) that you have identified.

  2. The setting fits into this type of story because it is two American people in a foreign country where things are different for both of them. As I have said in my project she is being forced (by who I think is a Russian character) to give in a briefcase to the person that allows people in to the hotel. Her super human characteristics suits the setting because of the way the area is set out. There are many stores and hospitals she enters and absolutely dominates male characters. For instance she enters a hotel (not sure if it was a hotel) and there a four men pointing there weapons at her. She shoots one bullet through one man's head and that one bullet ends up turning into there directions and killing them. Also she is on a plane and she sips a drink, all of a sudden she starts to melt and has to quickly pop into the toilet. What happens here is very controversial, whilst she is in the bathroom a member of staff id banging on the door asking if she is ok. This film is not really a good versus evil but it is as if the police are going against her and she goes against them. Only because people are very suspicious about her as we see later in the film when Morgan Freeman is on the phone to her not so much believing what she's saying until she makes herself pop up on his gadgets (t,v tablet etc) also all phones start shaking and ringing.
